Default Transmission

I always took good care of my Honda Accord, but last night the transmission
wouldn't lock in at all. First there was a jerk and then the car wouldn't
move. I let it sit for a few seconds and then it would lock-in and move.
Sometimes it goes and sometimes it doesn't. I always kept the fluid changed
and this is the first problem I ever had a problem. This is '92 model with
200,000 miles. The engine still run smooth and saves gas.

Does anyone knows how to check the auto transmission to see if it is a minor
problem? If this is a costly problem, then I will just buy a new car since
it has too many miles.

Thanks,
Al

How full / what color is the tranny fluid if you wipe the dipstick stick
on a sheet of paper? Are you driving it, and what 'tricks' do you have
to do to make it go? Have you checked your dash indicators to be sure
they aren't trying to tell you something? The instructions are in the
owner's manual. It's called the 'lamp check'.

200,000 miles is consider very long life for an automatic transmission.

I suspect that yours is due for a complete rebuild.

Not necessarily. I know a few Accord owners who put close to 300K miles on
the original auto tranny.

In this case, it may be something minor like the transmission control unit.

The fluid lever is perfect and the color looks like new fluid with a pinkish
look. I change my fluid every 30k miles.

This happen last night, but I just took it around the block to see if it
would work and there seems to be no problem. This is weird because I know
that something is wrong with it! There was no trick to get it to work last
night. The transmission did what ever it wanted to do. One time there was no
reverse. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I barely made it home.
Now I can here winding noises is coming from the transmission. This never
happen before.

Oh yeah......yesterday, a check engine light came-on for the first time in
history, but the lamp with-out about a minute later.

I hope this help,
