The man, whose name has not yet been released, was hanging out a passenger window of a sports utility vehicle in the parking lot of the Fred Meyer store at Southeast 272nd Street and 168th Place Southeast, said sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart. He died around 2:25 a.m. It is believed the driver, a 22-year-old Kent man, was doing doughnuts in the parking lot when the vehicle rolled. Neither the driver nor an 18-year-old passenger were injured. The driver was booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide, Urquhart said. |

The SUVers can keep on driving them, if they don't believe or concern themselves with the stats. VW Beetles were very easy to turn over while doing donuts. My old roomate turned over a Ferrari but he wasn't doing donuts (single vehicle, ran off the road). I can't remember the model (it was a 1967 model coupe with a V12), but I can remember the horror of seeing it sitting in the garage with the roof partially caved in. Ed |

Once you leave the pavement, rolling says nothing about the safety of a car. Hitting an embankment at the right angle will flip even a go-kart. Still a sad story though... nate |

Still a sad story though... Agreed, but the greater the differences in the dimensions can cause a rolling vehicle to flip less times. All other factors the same, I would rather be flipping in something relatively flat to something relatively round. |
