Drive in downtown Charlotte or Atlanta (they have 4-6 lanes to choose
from here) Sometime, I'll bet I've logged more Interstate miles than
you have in the last 10 years. And by the way I am not making stuff up!
That's the kettle calling the pot black.

Ah. That's clearer then; I'd wondered if there are any
passenger cars that are longer than five metres, and only
came up with the long Maybach off the top of my head.

But those taxation issues must still be to do with
imports, not with passenger cars in general, IMHO.

Yours,
Erik.

That's something that maybe our readers from the United States
of Cheap Fuel, Dammit, It's a Constitutional Right can tell us.
I certainly can't.

SCNR,
Erik.

It's perfectly possible to make a light yet long car... back in the
day, "lower, longer, wider" was the epitome of style, and since we
weren't nearly as overcrowded then, there wasn't really any practical
reason to limit the length of cars.

My own '55 Stude has a 120" wheelbase; not sure what the overall length
is, but it's a 5-passenger (in practice, 4-passenger unless all
passengers really like each other) coupe, but still is quite long
simply because rather than make it short and tall, the designers opted
to make it low and long. The only reason it has a usable trunk is
because most of it is hanging past the rear axle. I think its curb
weight is something a little over 3000 lbs, which is not any more than
some modern "compact" cars (and this is with that big, 600 lb. plus
Stude engine up front. The long wheelbase helps here, too - it misses
being classified as a "front-mid" engine car by only a couple inches;
the front of the engine only barely peeks past the centerline of the
imaginary front axle.) It would certainly look large to European eyes,
but truth be told, it's not; just proportioned differently. Now
granted, there were much larger cars that were much longer, and weighed
nearly twice as much, but you don't see many of those being driven
regularly anymore.

I can't say that either philosophy is better or worse, but as American
cities approach the population densities of European ones, I think you
will see the "traditional" American car disappear in favor of ones with
more European proportions, simply because they're more practical in a
high-density scenario.

nate

(still likes the looks of older American cars, even if they aren't so
practical anymore.)

Hey, I'm not going to get in a ****ing contest with you but here's a
little dribble.

I don't know if you lie or not and I don't really care. I do know that
you greatly exaggerate facts & truths...is that a lie? technically no,
but you are way over the top with your ideas and accusations.

Fact: I did not lie when I stated that people occasionally drive 10-15
MPH on urban freeways, it is the exception, yes, but it does happen, I
saw it on I-85 in Metro Atlanta today as a matter of fact; 2 Mexicans
in a car that would probably blow up at 45 MPH. Did they keep right?
Nooooooo, they were in the 3rd lane from the right on a 6 lane
carraigeway, and that was my point, those drivers are dangerous to the
rest of the traffic flow, more so than speeders.

Time to wash my hands now.

You're the one that seems to be focuses on child molestion. What's the
matter, your bath house buddies lose respect for you and you're looking
