...and once the 156/147 GTA 3.2 gets more common (= parts get
cheaper), you can upgrade with a 3.2 cranc and end up with a 3.7
liter V6 - yabba-dabba-doo.. :-)

Maybe in Europe, but here in the USA, our availability of Alfa "donor"
engines stops at the 1995 164. That's when Alfa pulled out of the North
American market, never to return.

Well, I own one of these now ( http://tinyurl.com/4gtd6 )
Tried it in first and second, and it runs strong. Only bad thing i noticed
is that gearbox have tendency to "drop-out-of" reverse. Friend, whos is
specialized in gearbox repairs, said he can fix that. In a few days the car
will be home, and i can start The Works.

Excellent stuff. Let us know how it turns out, please.

Also, have you considered a mega-squirt injection system? I am thinking of
putting one in my Giulietta.

Nice, and you even get the "Maserati Ghibli" rims as part of the
deal..

I've heard that the shifting mechanism can be a bit dodgy,
something with the bushings as I recall..

Now I think about it, the Ghibli has 5-spoke split rims, the ones
on your car is from the 424.
