UPDATE - was 93 YJ vibration problem
Thanks for the tips guys,,,,, turns out the best tip was from a guy at work:
His recommendation was to replace the u-joints on the drive shaft, even though they appear to be solid sometimes you'll get one bearing cap that goes bad and it is enough to set off vibration. Replaced both U-joints yesterday,,, vibration is gone today! And sure enough there was one bearing cap with half the needles chewed up. thanks again |

Mind you this vibration was very subtle, the wife never noticed it while she
was driving, but when I was driving it seemed like the bottom was ready to fall out ! ;-) "jaco" > wrote in message ... > Thanks for the tips guys,,,,, turns out the best tip was from a guy at > work: > His recommendation was to replace the u-joints on the drive shaft, even > though they appear to be solid sometimes you'll get one bearing cap that > goes bad and it is enough to set off vibration. > > Replaced both U-joints yesterday,,, vibration is gone today! Because of the angle we have to run with four wheel drives, our
universal joints will need a lot more maintenance than most passenger cars. Lube them with every oil change, and look for the telltale sign of rust color on the cap's seal to tell us it's too late, it's dry. It's still surprising how many cars I see on the side of the road with
their driveshaft hanging down. Or how many front wheel drives, I here the snapping of a bad universal joints as they make a turn. It really is shocking to be driving down the road and hear clicking ,
grinding , scrapping and realize it is the car next to you and they are toolin along without a care in the world. I think some folks wait till it breaks and then they truly know what is making that funny noise!! ;-) "L.W.
