It is illegal in many states under "distracted driver" laws, (and one can be pulled over and ticketed) for shaving, applying makeup, reading etc. Not so with cell phone use UNLESS, it causes a accident (after the fact). So, the cell phone use needs to be added to the list of "distracted driver" laws. |

She swerved back in her lane just in time. > These things should be banned while driving...even with a headset. > I was on a trip to Columbus, OH with a friend. We witnessed a couple of accidents that were preventable. At the I-264/I-71 split in Louisville two ladies, both on cell phones, collided and one went into the median and rolled. The other went into the ditch on the right and struck a culvert. Extensive damage to autos and, luckily, minor injuries to occupants. It seems that the gal in the left lane wanted to go right onto I-264 and the one in the right lane wanted to go to the left to I-71. Later that same day, déjŕ vu in Cincinnati at the I-71/I-75 split. Again two ladies collided while both were on cell phones. One into median and one managed to stay in emergency lane. Both vehicles remained upright. They both appeared to be 25-30 years old but they had the vocabulary of a seasoned truck driver. They very nearly came to a physical confrontation. The problem was not totally cell phones but when combined with excessive speed made for a bad situation. In both instances the posted limit was 55, most traffic was moving at 65-70 and these cell phone users were traveling at 80+ and passing all. |

LOL Can not or will not act on generalized laws??? That's ludicrous. The whole reason they make generalized laws is so the polcie can do wahtever they darned well please. Obey all the laws and you look like a drunk so you get stopped and ticketed for some made up charge or at the elast a good amount of your time wasted, break the law (speeding, 'rolling stop', etc.) and you are breaking the law and get a ticket. |
