I was guessing that he would replace the relay with a known good one. Still,
your point is correct. I would, however, not recommend unplugging the switch with the fan running. Agree on the second point as well. I had a similar problem, and it was the switch. Until I got the new one, I left the switch unplugged and switched the aircon on while driving (which activated the fan at low speed).
