'94 YJ Speedometer
Our '94 YJ speedometer "jiggles" up and down when driving at steady speeds.
I assume it needs a new speedometer cable. Has anyone changed their speedo cable? Any installation hints? Tom |

Hi Tom,
Have you tried lubricating it with chassis grease or graphite? Your cable disconnects at the speedometer, Real ones unscrew, yours probably has plastic clip that you just squeeze and pull loose from the meter, then just slide it out. If it is frayed, we're usually forced buy a one size fits all, and cut and metal or crimp a new end on: http://www.billhughes.com/speedoCable.jpg You might switch to a more accurate CJ meter, like: http://www.off-road.com/jeep/swb/articles/dash.htm God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mabar wrote: > > Our '94 YJ speedometer "jiggles" up and down when driving at steady speeds. > I assume it needs a new speedometer cable. Thanks Bill. I will try greasing it.

Bill, you ever get any grease to really work well? Every time I tried
(or got grease/oil into the cable) it would drag and jump all over the place after a few months. I've got 2 bottles for speedo cables - one uses a kerosene (or a really light oil) mixed with graphite, the other is straight powdered graphite. That's all I've ever had any real luck with - altho the powdered graphaite has to be the messiest stuff I've ever used. Hi Will,
Maybe, that's why I've done thousands of them. I used rubber lube on the suspension rubber bushings, too ;-) God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O http://www.billhughes.com/ Will Honea wrote: > > Bill, you ever get any grease to really work well?
