The blinker relay in my 2000 Neon must be fairly robust. Not only does it
make a fairly audible click when operating, I can actually feel the click
in my hands through the steering wheel.

In all the crappy old cars I used to drive, one of the first things to die
is the auto-cancel on the turn-signal switch, so I've long since gotten
used to having to turn off the blinker manually, whether I'm doing a 180 or
just changing lanes. I even do this in my current car, where everything's
new enough it actually still functions as it did when it left the lot...

Because maybe there is a really long turn and I need to flash for a mile?!

they did, BMW now has a four position turn signal, first setting in
each direction blinks five times and the second is the standard
turnsignal.

ya, you can pull the magnatron out of a really strong old microwave.
mount it on the front bumper of your car behind the grill. put a
grounded shield behind it and then connect it to a power inverter that
converts to 120 or 240 depending on how effective you want it. then put
in a switch to turn it off and on. just fyi, when you turn it on you
may want to get ready to go around them.

My '91 Chrysler Le Baron would turn itself off after a while - I don't
recall if it was time or distance based.

>Because maybe there is a really long turn and I need to flash for a mile?!

I realized it would turn itself off while exitting a freeway once -
the exit ramp was very long (it included an overpass), and I would be
merging to the right as soon as I hit the feeder, so I wanted to just
leave it on.
