Auto Insurance Question (foreign driver)
I've done some searching and found this question asked a few years back and
I'm wondering if anything has changed with insurance companies. I have a UK drivers licence (which I've had for 10yrs, clean record etc). I'm going to be in the US for a year. I've just bought a car and I'm finding it difficult to get auto insurance here (with the foreign licence). The only companies that will give me quotes are Progressive and GMAC. Both companies gave me rates of around $2500 / year on a standard v6 Mustang. Apparently the high rate is because I have no credit history in the US (why that affects car insurance rates, I don't know?), no driving record here (even though I have brought a copy with me) and because I've never held auto insurance prior here (again, I have a car in the UK which is still currently insured). Can anyone recommend any auto insurance companies which would take a foreign licence and quote favourably? Thanks |
