2.3 to 5.0
I was just wondering how hard it is for a beginning mechanic to swap a 2.3
out of an 92 LX for a new 5.0 also was wondering about some of the stuff I will need before starting. |

In addition to the engine, you'll need to replace the rest of the drivetrain, including the transmission, the rear end, and the axles (I don't know if the centersections, or "axle housings" are interchangeable or not). You'll also need V8 springs and struts up front, 5-lug spindles with brake rotors, probably V8 calipers, the heavier sway bar, and probably V8 springs and shocks in the back, too. Of course, you'll need an entirely new exhaust system. Those are the major mechanical highlights. There are wiring concerns, and others I don't know about. The basic idea is that it's better to spend your time and money looking for a clean LX 5.0 or GT than to go through all that. Also, any major swap or upgrade like this (trust me) inevitably will have issues that will nag you until you've finally worked them all out. It's a cleaner swap in vintage Mustangs, but even then, most of the things I mentioned still need to happen. I went from 6 to 8 in my '67 because I found a rust-free car for a very good price. People do it with Fox Mustangs, but there will be major phases of it (like the suspension) you simply won't be able to do yourself...
