Some people use MTL some use ATF, regardless of what is spec'd at the time by BMW. I used Redline D4 in my E36 and a year later the transmission failed. That's just an anecdote - I can't say whether it was the oil or not. |

No proof, but enough stories that I didn't pursue putting in Redline or Royal Purple products in my M5. |
