2.2 liter engine
Can anyone please tell me if my 1997 Pontiac Sunfire 134CI 2.2Liter engine is non-interference? -- dreamweaverc ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.carstalk.net/viewtopic-323995.html Send from http://www.carstalk.net |

yes supposedly not even sure this shop i have been dealing with is lying and cheating me right and left. i heard this engine is non-interference and wouldnt have bent the valves. the shop said $1200 to fix it after doing $600 unauthorized work supposedly on timing chain. but i took it to another shop and he says he doesnt think it is bent valve to good of compression, and runs to good on road. -- dreamweaverc ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.carstalk.net/viewtopic-323995.html Send from http://www.carstalk.net |

Chain did not break. tensioner plastic broke off and stuck in the sprocket. chain jumped timing. I thought it was not an interference motor too and replaced the chain and tensioner only to find i had little compression. Took the head off to a machine shop where they found all eight valves bent. 8 new valves and some head work and its back running. Word to the wise if you own a 2.2: If you hear a rattling sound in the front of the motor, it may NOT be your belt tensioner and it may be your TIMING CHAIN tensioner. Save yourself some grief and have it replaced before you get stuck somewhere with a dead motor. I waited too long and paid the price Bob ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

You also suggested to me to use OEM 2.2 tensioner on this repair, which i did. I just wish i would have had a clue the rattling noise was the tensioner before mine broke and chain slipped and caused all the damage. Chain did not break. Ian wasn't saying that chains never jump time. He was saying that you won't find information on chain-timed engines in a Gates TIMING BELT information book! |
