I have not heard many problems with those years. I would go with the
latter if I were you. They didn't really get all the bugs out of the
4spd tranny until the 2001 model year. It is rare that the 4spd craps
out like they used to.

out like they used to.

I have an 2001 and it hasn't had anything major go bad. I have seen and
heard that the drivers side power window motor goes bad and has to be
replaced. And also, the hose for the power steering is wrong. Under load
from turning while not moving, it growls and vibrates. Other than that, ours
has been ok. Oh yeah, bad fuel injectors, had to be replaced twice now.

If I remember anything else, I'll add it.
