Default Compass in Pajero, how does it work

hi,
i have an imported Pajero Snow Athlete, that comes with a manual in
Japanes, so can't read.
can anyone explain how the compass in the Pajero needs tio be handled?
If I push the button below the compass, The S (South), starts to flash
around the compass.

What is it for?

cheers

If the button is a reset button, you may need to drive in a circle to set
the compass. I have to do that with mine. I find an empty parking lot, push
the button and drive in a circle at wheel lock. My instructions tell me to
turn accessories on like windshield wipers and fans. If it is the reset
button, it should stop flashing after it's set.
