Default Alfa 146 1.4 T.Spark Emissions

Hi Lads/Ladies
Have been looking for a while for a decent forum with Alfa users and my
mate in Portsmouth pointed me here.
I need some help/advice. I have a 2000 146 that has recently failed its
NCT due to emissions. I have spoke to multiple dealers and supplied the
emissions results as below but each is giving me the run around BIGTIME
and refuse to give me a worse case scenario cost for repairs, typical of
dealers in Ireland to be honest. The readings are Lambda = 0.881 (needs to
be between 0.97 & 1.03) and the CO is 4.12vol% (needs to be above 0.3%)
Lately the car is sounding like a diesel engine when running.I have to say
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to engines(especially compared to the
knowledge you folks are demonstrating).
I love my Alfa and do not want to part with it... They are an amazing
looking car and I have had no other probs with it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance/info you can give me.

Mooey.

Have a look at www.alfaowner.com the forums there are very helpful, a lot of
146/145 owners on there. A few Irish guys. Macguinn often has a lot of spare
parts and advice.

No worries, except the site appears to be down at the moment! Was
functioning okay earlier...

Before my current Alfa I had an 145 1.4 twinspark and this one failed also
the emission measuring of the MOT. Both times it was caused by a broken
lambdasonde. Maybe you can let this one check out?
Or maybe it is running on a sort of emergencyprogram so you need to reset
the ECU and measure the emissions again?

Good luck and happy drivin'

Aad
