Default 2004 Durango Limited Automatic Temp Control (ATC)

Hi

Has anyone had any problems with the ATC Automatic Temperature Control in
the 2004 Durango Limited?
I have had mine since Feb and all worked ok in the colder temps here in PA,
but now that the warmer temps
and use of AC things are not working.

What happens is that the control just reep re-starting / re-booting the
display goes blank.. and blows heater
air HOT then AC starts then reboots againa and again.. If I set the control
to "Manual" it switches itself back
to Auto.... like it has a mind of it's own...

Just curious as to what might be the problem... bad control module... or if
this is a know defect or any TSB's
that might be out there on this.

Thanks

John

Interesting you should bring this up. I just got an '04 Durango 4x4 Limited
last Saturday. It now has 350 miles on it. I am bringing it in to the
dealer tomorrow morning because of problems with the automatic temperature
control on the AC. Symptoms:

I leave it set at 72-74 degrees in automatic mode. Most of the time it
works well, cooling the vehicle down in short order (I am in South Florida).
However, once in a while - maybe every 8-10 starts - the fan comes on, but
it just blows warm air. Shutting the unit off and then back on with the
power button does not fix it, nor does switching to manual and depressing
the snowflake AC button. The only thing that will clear it is to shut the
engine off, then restart. It then works fine until the next 8-10 engine
start ups.

I am wondering about the little IR sensor in the overhead that is supposed
to measure the driver's temperature.

I already know what is going to happen tomorrow. I'll get the "can't
duplicate the problem" excuse and I'll be fighting with the dealer for
months. Oh, well. It's too bad because I like the new Durango a lot,
especially with the junior Hemi.

What does it matter? Take it back to the dealer for a warranty repair.

Hi

interesting seem like the same problem... My guess as an engineer would be
that it is a software issue or microprocessor module
problem..

I am interested to know if there were others with this problem too as the
2004 is a new design... and wonder what I am going
to be up with my local dealer that has not seen any of these yet for repair
work..

Let me know what you find out and I will do the same.. I am expecting that
the module will be needed to swap out and have
to order it..

What kind of comment is this?
Almost not worth the time to respond.. but

this is a new design... 2004 in case you don't know, always nice to know if
this is a "known" issue and what
to expect from a dealer... or a "reset" that can be done by user...

What does it matter? Are you going to fix something yourself that is so
obviously covered under warranty? Take it in and be done with it.
