Default 1992 corvette, radio causing SYS error

Occationally I would get that blinking SYS error message on my spedo
display. Had no clue as to what it was or why I was getting it.

The other day I turned my radio off and noticed the SYS started to
flash... left it off for about a minute and it would continue to flash
SYS ever-so-often.

Turned my radio back on, and never got the message... 5 minutes later,
I turned the radio back off and the SYS immediately started to
flash....

brilliant Holmes!
Why are these two factors connected?

When I bought my 92 I had flashing SYS.
Told it was due to aftermarket radio installed without including two 30 cent
resistors.
Instead of removing radio and fixing I just let it flash. I got use to it.
