Default Regulator Whine

Hello,

My '71 Super is exhibiting strange behavior. It won't idle and there is a
loud high pitched whine which sounds like it is coming from the voltage
regulator. Both problems appeared when I took the car out of storage last
week. I don't know that they are related but the whine it quite odd. The
whine goes away at higher RPM and comes back at lower RPM.

I replaced the battery as it was quite old and I thought it may be drawing
too much current. The whine persists with the new battery as does the idle
problem.

The motor is a recent rebuild. Timing is set, valves adjusted, carb is
clean.

Any ideas?

Get a new Bosch solid-state reg:

No idle would not be related.

Check that the idle solenoid is screwed in tightly and
that it "clicks" when the key is turned on.

If it's been in storage, there is a good chance that
there is dirt in the carb idle passages.

Other things to check a
initial timing setting.
vacuum leaks.
carb flooding.
