This is an excellent point. Either drivers can determine a proper speed
or they can't. There is no inbetween here. There is no magic number below
which they have judgement and above which they don't.

Since we believe that drivers should be capable of determining a proper
speed, speed limits serve no purpose other than as a revenue tool. Other
signage exists to warn drivers of hidden dangers or to suggest speeds.

Actually, if they are "tuned," for anything, it is revenue generation,
not traffic flow or safety.

"Average" from the 1950 era.
Most autos of the last 15 years easily exceed those "averages".
(excluding SUVs!)

What roads are you talking about? Single lane? Of course nobody really
should be driving 55mph down a single-lane road. The chances of an accident
are too great for people to go racing down those kinds of roads, especially
if, like idiots, they try passing on a hill or curve.
