Gas mileage -- 5.0 liter V8
Seller says 18 in winter, 19 in summer. Likely? Says he has a very light
foot. |

Gas mileage -- 5.0 liter V8
This is a much more complicated subject that it may appear to be.
Depends - what kind of driving conditions are we talking about? City? Highway? Mix? Is the Explorer 4WD or 2WD? And where are we talking about? City driving where I live is definitely going to give higher mileage than if I lived in a big metropolitain area like New York City, for example. I have an '05 4WD with the 4.6L V8. I get around 16 in mixed driving and about 20 in straight highway driving. Have to say that the V8 has a whole lot more pep than the V6. Guy says he pays particular attention to his mpg display to maximize mileage. But even with that effort I was trying to get a feel for how realistic his results were. Seems like your experience is in the same ballpark, albeit with a slightly smaller V8. Could be, but here in Pittsburgh with V8 and AWD we get 13.5 to 14.5 around town (better with the A/C off) and about 19 (to my pleasant surprise) on the road. Pittsburgh is VERY hilly, so maybe add 1-2 MPG to adjust for a flatter topography. That's about as good as it gets! "Lee K" > wrote in message ... > Seller says 18 in winter, 19 in summer. Likely? Looking like a little puffery in the sales pitch. |
