Default Strange auto transmission problem

98 4.0 SOHC
Yesterday, transmission fluid was coming out of the top of the
dipstick tube.
The fluid level is checked regularly and no fluid has been added for
over a year (the truck does few miles) so it hasn't been over filled.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks
Len Smith.

Forgot to say that this was with the engine switched off. The truck
had only been moved a couple of yards 2 hours before.
