Speed limits are not personalized
Speed limits are tuned for the _average_ driver in the _average_ vehicle.
Just because you think YOU have the catlike reflexes and the ultimate driving machine to handle speeds well above the posted limit, that doesn't mean you are issued an exemption. There's only one speed limit posted. |

They're supposed to be the 85th percentile (says the MUTCD), but unfortunately, most city councils are too damn willing to listen to harpies who move onto major streets and let their kids play in the street, but don't want to be held responsible for the result. |

Speed limits aren't "tuned" for anything, though they *ought* to be. Currently they're arbitrarily chosen, usually by statute. -- ~/Garth |"I believe that it is better to tell the truth than a lie. Actually, if they are "tuned," for anything, it is revenue generation, not traffic flow or safety. |
