Default Clutch Slave Cyl.

I replaced my slave about 10 days ago and yesterday I noticed I was
losing pedal on the drive home, when I got home I found that the res.
was empty. I assumed that maybe I had a leak or maybe the slave was
leaking but upon further inspection I found fluid on the firewall....I
cleaned the fluid off the firewall filled the res. and bled the brakes
and went for a 1 hour drive. Now I'm sure it's a defective cylinder
because I can see fresh fluid on the firewall.

Has anyone else had a defective cyl. out of the box?
Is it possible I messed it up during installation???

Don't you mean the clutch master cylinder? (the one on the firewall)

I had the same problem and got a replacement from Pep Boys that lasted
less than a week. I've no doubt you can get a bad one right out of the box.

Now if you really DID replace the slave cylinder ... <G>

Sorry I should proofed my post before hitting send, sometimes the mind
and the keyboard don't co-operate.
Yes the master cyl. was what I meant, I'm going back to Canadian Tire
tomorrow to order a new one (glad I kept the receipt) and I hope this
one holds up.

Thanks

Damn I really messed up that post..... It seems that I bled the brakes
instead of the clutch.

The problem with buying an after market master or slave is that ther are
rebuilt. Go to the Dealer and get an OEM that is one ans safe your self some
headaches especially when the next one blows out on the trail.

I still don't have a clue 'which' master or slave you changed but....

Fluid on the firewall implies the cap or cover has a bit of dirt on it
allowing the fluid to come out the top. The fluid squirts up with every
pedal hit and the reservoir can empty pretty fast if the cover isn't
sealed tight.

I would clean everything and have someone pump the crap out of it while
I watched to see if it's just coming out the top.

They can leak from the shaft seal, but then 'usually' you see the fluid
inside the vehicle on the inside firewall....

I changed the master.
When ever I have had a master go I have seen fluid on the inside and
outside of the firewall, with this one I cleaned the firewall drove it
around and found fresh fluid on the engine side of the firewall again.
(I'm pretty sure the cap was tight but I will give it another test)
Thanks

Ok I have to admit I was wrong here... the fluid was from the fitting
on the line from the master cyl. I think I have it tightened now but I
rounded the edges a bit. I might have to buy a new line when I get the
time.
