Thanks for the recipe John, BUT
could you be just a little more specific on that weather part and how to run
that still?

I had an opportunity to , well, we'll just say I had a sip or two from a
fruit jar, not too long ago.
It was wonderful

I think i would like to give it a go.

| My grandfather made his own in NC. I still remember the recipe from when
I
| helped him:
|
| 1 bushel of corn meal
| 100 lbs of sugar
| 1 lb of yeast
| Add ingredients to a wood barrel he had
| Fill with water
| Mix well
| Let it work (depends on the weather how long)
| Crank up the still!

I will have to send you an email Kate. I have plenty of info for you. Should
have asked when you were here. You forget I am an old TN boy? I could have
taken you by and showed you the *setup* while you were here.

Yeah my grandpa had one too back in TN. Underground too.

These days, I passed my info onto someone else that had the space and
resources available to set one up. I know plenty of people constantly want
his supply. Very good stuff.

My memory isn't too clear on that part, better go with Don's info. I'm
partial to George Dickel, it's a Tennesse Sour Mash Whiskey. It goes good
with Sundrop, Mountain Dew or Mello Yello. As you can see, I haven't
carried on the family tradition.

Everything you need can be bought off of eBay and at a hardware store. Very
little investment for a decent turn-around if you find the right person.

Keep in mind, it is legal to make it in the state of Oklahoma, but illegal
to sell it without a tax stamp. Go see the ABLE commission and the OTC for
those.

I'm partial to Evan Williams, a venerable Kentucky whiskey, which is
cheaper but just as good, IMO, as George Dickel and Jack Daniels. Their
single barrels are special, and also very affordable for the quality.

If you want to roll your own spirits (illegally in the US), check out:

http://www.homedistiller.org/

I brew beer, which is very easy if you have pay attention to detail and
sanitation. You can brew superb beer -- as good as any you'll buy in the
store -- for a small fraction of the retail price. It's also legal.

A good friend swore by Jack Daniels and water. I've tried all three.
They're all good. I think I'll go mix up some George and Mountain Dew now.
Cheers!

By federal law, you cannot produce spirits legally in Oklahoma or
anywhere else in the US, whether for personal consumption or sale,
without jumping through some VERY high federal hoops and spending a
great deal of money. See the ATF FAQ:

http://www.atf.gov/alcohol/info/faq/genalcohol.htm#g1

Producing beer and wine for personal consumption is OK, subject to some
fairly liberal restrictions.
