Default Crack Head

Well, just heard from my shop on the heads. Good news one head is done and
looks wonderful, bad news one head is cracked from the spark plug to the
exhaust valve seat. These are single port heads, I thought they were not
prone to cracking. Oh well, I got two more heads that are not nearly as
purrdy as the one that is cracked. I will take them by and let my
machinist pick. I know these will need a couple new studs on the exhaust
ports. Wish me luck, cause single ports heads are getting hard to come by,
but they run well. Some day I will be force to go dual port, but not yet I
hope.

some call me crazy, but I've found that almost every time the head is
cracked it had

non bosch or NGK plugs in them.

examples are

Champion
Autolite

SP heads are much more robust then DP, cracks are not common.

I have a set I posted a little while back, They came off my wife's buggy. The PO told me he replaced the heads and
cylinders when he built the buggy, the VDO Speedo says 5000 miles. The engine ran good it just leaked like a sieve and
had a lot of crankshaft play.. I bought a new long block. these single port heads are free for pick up or pay shipping.
If interested I can take pictures and email them. By the way I am in Delaware.

I was wrong about the crack, it runs between the valves. The guy at the
shop said they could still be used but it would be better to have good
ones. Turns out that my other set of heads are 40 horse heads. I have
no need for these. Anyone interested? I will make you a good deal on
the pair.
