K. You're Cory Dunkle, so you give the cop attitude, accuse him of
profiling you just because you're a teenager driving a clapped out old car
with an excessively loud exhaust system, and also because you're unable to
provide a driver's license, registration or insurance 'cause you left them
on top of your girlfriend's toilet. Oh, and also you give the cop a
raftload of **** because he claims you were squealing your tires through
the red light you just ran. Which is all true, but the Honda Civic in
front of you was doing all that and more, which just proves the cop hates
teenagers driving loud, clapped-out old cars erratically at weird hours.

I would never put myself in that situation. I do not drive when I have been
drinking. It's common sense not to drive when you are not up to it, for any
reason (be it alcohol, lack of sleep, or whatever...). It also courteous to
other motorists and passengers, as when you drive when you are incapable of
driving safely you are not only risking yourt own life but that of everyone
else on the road. Sure, you can accept the risk of driving drunk and perhaps
getting hurt or killed, but no one else accepted the risk of being hurt or
killed because _you_ decided that risk was acceptable. It's just plain
reckless.

In any case, when I am stopped I will let the officer talk, only politely
saying hello or answering any questions he has, or I will ask what I did if
I genuinely have no clue why he stopped me. If the officer decides to be
friendly I will talk to him as a friend, such as when they have asked about
my cars ('67 and '68 Galaxie's).

Jesus, is it legal for cops to pull people over just to ask them personal
questions?

No, but I've gotten out of two speeding tickets for having a classic car the
cops liked. At least that's my theory, being as how they cut me a break and
asked about my car. Nice guys they were, very friendly. The one cop I
believe had a Camaro project (hethan! ).

But anyhow, back to the point. Cops can stop you at any time for any reason.
If you are obeyinmg all the laws you are suspicious (no one obeys all the
laws, so you must be DUI or hiding something), and if you're breaking any
laws, well, you're breaking the law. Nice how that works, huh? At least for
the cops it is...

Do they like it? I think I would find it difficult to not yell YOU ASSHOLE at
him if a cop wasted my time for something like that.

That happened to me when I had a '59 Cadillac Sedan d'ville, I got
pulled over in Portland (OR) on I-5 he told me he clocked me at 80 in a 55,
I told him my speedometer was bouncing back and forth, and that I had just
gotten the car. He told me to "put my money into the car and not the county"
and let me go after looking over the car.

I figured it made some sense that highway patrol guys might be into cars,
they
spend all day looking at them..

I had a friend in high school who rolled his Toyota pickup with the
lift job and oversized tires (imagine that!) - he said he was trying
ot avoid a deer.

He then bought an old (70-something) Corvette and mounted the body on
the pickup's chassis.

He said he got pulled over just so a cop could check it out. The
only thing the cop told him was that he'd have to re-aim the
headlights, but it was daytime when he was pulled over, so how could
the cop know the headlights needed aiming?
