Easy, buy a smaller car, with a smaller engine possibly diesel, and a proper
manual gearbox, and drive it economically. Saves you more than 30% straight
away.

Even easier, buy a bicycle, preferably with grip shifters, and pedal it
as fast as you want. Saves you more than 100% straight away.

At least until you consider the cost of fuel for the engine.

Which still requires fuel whether one chooses to drive or not. The
difference between refueling once a month versus twice to three times a
month is between $40 and $80. The difference in my food bill isn't more
than $30 to $40 in my estimation.

The calories taken to run a bike aren't free; you've got to get them
from somewhere.

But unlike fuel for a car, it's hard to get a reliable accounting.
According to the CDC, bicycling at less than 10mph burns 290 calories
for a 154 pound person. Of course, how much that costs depends a lot
on what fuel you use; beef costs more than bread.

If you can't stand biking that slow, it gets worse, of course.

High gas prices seems to bring out the usual con artists.
