GPL Sound problems continued
Hi folks,
after upgrading to XP pro I still haven't fully resolved my GPL sound issue (even on the new audigy 2 zs). After a bit of driving, sometimes the sound goes all digital and high-pitched, and the system needs a reboot in order to get decent sound working again. I "fixed" this problem thanks to another hint posted here a while ago, by installing the gpl2004 demo into a separate folder and copying over everything from the demo installation to my gpl folder. However, I cannot stand the brabham sound provided with the demo, so I was wondering if anybody has the original brab.wav file extracted from the audio.dat so that I could use it with my gpl installation. All the best & thanks for any ideas, uwe -- GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61 |

I'm having the exact same problem since going to XP pro but a reboot doesn't clear it up for me. It does it almost all the time but then sometimes, very rarely, clears up by itself, very flaky. I'm still using a SB Live sound card. I'll give your solution a try. I agree with Driver's suggestion of using dooDat to extract the wav file, but I'll send it to you if you'd prefer. Don |

Don Hi Don, after copying over the 2004 demo files, re-apply the 1.2.0.1 patch plus cpu speedfix. So far, the sewing machine sound has *not* reappeared, but I've said that far too often for my taste over the last couple of months. Don FWIW -- I had similar problems with GPL sound in XP Pro when I had an SBLive card. I ended up replacing the SBLive card with a TB Santa Cruz, which at the time (2 years ago?) cost only $40. That solved my problem. The card is probably even less expensive now. |

The Santa Cruz is a wonderful card. I still have mine somewhere, but it was
replaced with a Audigy 2 Platinum Pro. I don't recall why I did it. Sometimes I wish I hadn't. -Larry <BRH> wrote in message ... > Don Scurlock wrote: >> Uwe =?iso-8859-15?Q?Sch=FCrkamp?= > wrote in >> : >> >> >>>Hi folks, >>> >>>after upgrading to XP pro I still haven't fully resolved my GPL sound >>>issue (even on the new audigy 2 zs). SB live! has an unresolved issue with XP, and there seems to be no fix
for it, *except* reducing the amount of "sound hardware acceleration" to next to none. However, this is not acceptable, at least not in my computer config, since the sound will lag, and have ugly "notches", which combined will make GPL next to unplayable, mind you. I bought a SB audigy 2 card, and GPL works nicely with that one, BUT that card will mess up the NR2003 sounds, playing havoc with the volumes, among other things it will reduce your engine level to "barely audible"... So SB Audigy2 will make NR2003 unplayable... So, a natural question arises: Is there a soundcard out there that will work with BOTH GPL and NR2003??? ---Asgeir--- Don Scurlock wrote: > Uwe =?iso-8859-15?Q?Sch=FCrkamp?= > wrote in > : > > >>Hi folks, >> >>after upgrading to XP pro I still haven't fully resolved my GPL sound >>issue (even on the new audigy 2 zs).
