Help - brake light fault on 156
Hi,
I currently have a fault with the off side break light, it doesn't work!! When the engine is switched on the light is slightly illuminated which I assume is how the warning light is shown on the dashboard. I have checked the obvious, i.e bulb and fuse, all ok. I have changed over the bulb housing in the boot, not that. Checking with a volt meter -13 dc is showing at the bulb. Has anyone got any ideas of what else to check? Could this be caused by a faulty brake switch at the pedal that is not breaking the return to earth? If so, how easy is it to change these switches? Any assistance appreciated as the wife had a flat battery this morning which was my fault!!! Thanks Stu |

Hi Stu,
When the light is dim and the other is normal it could be the earth to the bulb, I had trouble for months with the rear fog warning of bulb failure, then every time I got out to check, it was ok. It turned out to be the earth termial in the bulb holder, making and breaking contact with the bulb with the smallest of vibration. After bending it very slightly it was cured and no more bother. to check the earth, get a bit of wire, and with the break pedal pressed connect to a good clean earth point then touch the other end onto the side of the bulb itself, [WHILE STILL IN THE HOLDER] it should go bright, if not you may have to get the wiring checked by an auto electrician. Not the switch cos that would affect them all > I had trouble for months with the rear fog warning of bulb > failure, then every time I got out to check, it was ok.
