The Vibe has all the techno-goodies and better lines. But it costs a couple of thousand mo $16,605 MSRP for the base, stripped Vibe. $14,670 MSRP for the base, stripped Matrix. Add $400 or so for delivery. The options on the Matrix cost 2/3 what the same ones on the Vibe do as well. ABS on the Vibe: $500. On the Matrix: $300 Go figure. Same power package. Same wheels. Same ABS. the Protection package is simmilar to the AWG and Side Airbags together. $1690 for the Matrix. $2265 for the Vibe. The Matrix doesn't have cruise control std or a rear wiper, but even adding those in, you get only another $430. Still less than the Vibe. That's why you see so many more than the Vibe. 17K is la-la land for a first time buyer, but 14K is a tough but doable stretch over a 11-13K Echo Sedan or Corolla. A fully loaded base Matrix with *every possible option* is ~$16,200 typical market price on Edmunds. Out the door price with $2000 in optional equipment. Less than the price of a stripped Vibe. $16,500 for a base Vibe, stripped, from Edmunds. Pontiac is offering a $2K rebate now, so they come in at the same effective price, but rebates don't sell cars - a low advertized price does, because that's good 24/7, 365 days a year. A base model with nothing on it squeeks in at ~$14,400. ~16,000 with tax and license and registration. The Vibe is in the $19K out the door price range as soon as that rebate ceases in a month. That's IF you don't touch a single overpriced GM option. Even the lowly Echo is ~13K out the door. 3K more for a better car than the Echo - they can stretch that far the first time out. 6K more? Gotta be kidding. Bill2: Tell your friend about the Matrix. He should be fine with a base model with nothing on it except ABS(worth $300, IMO). Much less pricey than the Vibe. |

Thanks for digging up all that information and posting it. As an aside, here's one for you bargain hunters. I went over to my local Mercedes dealership at lunchtime to get some parts, and they had a Maybach 57 in the showroom. It wasn't surrounded by a velvet rope or anything; people could walk right up to it, as with any of the other cars in the building. 545-HP twin-turbo V-12, refrigerator between the back seats, a cluster of repeater instruments in the overhead, and on and on. Anyone with an extra $320,200 burning a hole in his pocket should go check this baby out. Personally, I'd opt for a Bentley Continental GT for half the price. To clear a few things up...
The Aveo's rear seats not only fold forward, the flip as well giving a total cargo space of approximateley 41 cubic feet. Also the slot in the door is for toll tickets...have you gotten on the turnpike and not known where to put the ticket? on the seat? under your leg? in passenger's hand? Any way I bought one and to get a brand new car with power windows, remote door locks, cd player which plays MP3s, rear wiper, etc, etc, for 163.84 a month...NOT A LEASE.. it is hard to beat. I did use $2300 GM dollars acumulated from a GM credit card. If I did not have the extra 2300 to put down on a GM, I would have looked at the scion xa...very close in size power etc. The Ponticrap Vive starts at @ 20,000...LOL are you kidding me....the Sunfire is only in 2 dr....and the Caviler (sp) is destine for extintion after 2004 would have been a stripped model. I would say for anyone looking for an inexpensive (comparativley speaking) auto with a few nice touches, the Aveo is a decent deal. I only wish it had a name which was easier to figure out the correct pronunciation. Oh...BTW the Echo - hideously UGLY!!!!! (Stephen H. Holy run-on sentance, Batman! I figured out what the slot was for, but what iis that wierd button next to it for and why does it have 4 little arrows? > Any way I bought one and to get a brand new car with > power windows, remote door locks, cd player which plays MP3s, rear > wiper, etc, etc, for 163.84 a month...NOT A LEASE.. it is hard to > beat. Base Vibe: Edmunds.com has a base vibe with nothing on it - pretty simmilar to a loaded Aveo - for $14,459 average market price. That includes $2000 in rebates and shipping charges. Subtract your $2300GM dollars and you are looking at $12159 typical market price for a Vibe. $14,818 out the door(tax, license, everything) Let's say you haggle the fees a bit to $14,800 even. I get roughly $229 a month for 72 months. The Aveo - I get $11000 even as a typical market price, for the LS, which is the only version a sane person would consider if they were ever TRYING to compare it to a Vibe or Echo. $9840 with your rebate, or close to that. More if you get automatic, of course. I'd gladly pay $2000 more for a Vibe - but I guess that's your fault for not shopping better. Enjoy your Daewoo while it lasts. |

My bad - he finance claculator at Edmunds didn't update correctly. It's closer to $8800 after the rebates. Still, I'd gladly pay the difference. $75 a month or so is more than worth it to get a rebadged Toyota. |

Show me a Vibe with the same options for $2000 more and i'll let you give it to me in the ass....do you mean a wrecked and stripped 2003 Vibe? |

Thank you. It has a nice warantee. > My bad - he finance claculator at Edmunds didn't update correctly. > It's closer to $8800 after the rebates. Holy calculator batman.....right ... it was about $8800 financed. Needless to say I am paying $43 a month more than i would have if I did not quit smoking. My giving up cigarrettes is basically paying for the majority of the car. > Still, I'd gladly pay the difference. $75 a month or so is more > than worth it to get a rebadged Toyota. I'm not so sure if you would gladly pay $75/month more for a Scion. I must say I do like the way they look a bit more than the Daewoo...er Aveo, but you must be insane to think I made a bad choice...lol...BTW while you are considering....either way..neither car (Aveo or Scion Xa) are BMW 740's...so while you are rubbing one out thinking about a difference of $75, what are you currently driving? A 1987 escort? And if the Scion is really a Toyota..then why would Toyota NOT put their name on it??? Maybe they don't want to say the Scion...well....maybe is not Toyota quality? And what is it with the instrument cluster in the middle of the dash??? And nearly $400 for a spoiler?? $120 for friggin floor mats??? Or how about $300 for "cup holder illumination"...give me a friggin break here. And I still maintain until death....ECHO=Friggin UGLY!!!! I don't care if it is the best car on earth...it U-G-L-Y!!! Hell don't get me wrong...I bought a cheap car...I know it...I would rather have an 03 Cobra or 05 Mustang, but the budget told me different..One thing though is I did look at what was out there..I also looked at the purpose of the car and I made a choice and am quite comfortable with it. I have a 60,000 mile powertrain which should last a bit over 2 years...I dump it and get another cheap new car. Ummmmmmm....Nuff said. |

Oh I just priced a Vibe with the same options my Aveo has.....it came to 19,925.00 before $2000 rebate. Needless to say it is as I said a $20,000 car. the BASE with nothing starts at 17,000 |

At best, it's comparable to a Base vibe. Much less than $17,000. |

Actually, you can get a Matrix for about $1K less. The fact that a Matrix/Vibe is a much larger, safer, and better built vehicle(stronger components and better engine) has to factor in for something. > while you are considering....either way..neither car (Aveo or Scion > Xa) are BMW 740's...so while you are rubbing one out thinking about a > difference of $75, what are you currently driving? Actually, I'm driving two used cars. The idea of buying a $9K car new is silly in the extreme when you can get a used Volvo or Mercedes or Acura for much less money. Probably pay cash and skip the financing and need for full insurance coverage. |
