Default Is it possible to disable the check engine light on a 2000 MazdaMiata?

The damn thing comes on for no reason. My mechanic has checked out the car
several times, and there's never anything wrong with it.

I would like to disconnect it, cut a wire or pull out the light. Is this
possible?

Yes, find a different mechanic!!

they do NOT come on for no reason... although the car might *seem* to be
running alright, there is something wrong.

What do you get when you pull the codes ?

I'm not sure about Miata, but on many cars if you pull the bulb then it will
"beep" at you to let you know that there is a problem, and the bulb is
burned out !

Seriously, best thing to do is FIX the problem, not sweep it under the rug.

The most common cause of CEL is a loose gas cap. Tighten it until it
clicks a couple of times.

Yes, it is possible, but I would *never* do this. It's on for a reason!

Please post the code you're getting:

There are several fairly common reasons for nusance trips on a 99 and 2k
miata.
The EGR valve may be sticking.
The Idle is too high or too low.
The intake manifold needs cleaning (Egr passage)
The Cat efficiency is too low. This can be caused by a flakey ignition
system that eventually causes the Cat(s) to fail.

The Code is important to know, so that you can ignore it or do the
appropriate maintaince.
