It sounded like you were describing a broken overdrive gear. I
believe rebuilding it is your only option, as the input and output shafts are different than the AX-15: http://www.billhughes.com/ax5_ax15.jpg God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O Steve Landis wrote: > > Back to my transmission... Check with a local (not a chain!) rebuilder. You might also
call/email Sooner Jeep - they rebuild a lot of trannies. Not necessarily the cheapest place around, but they were helpful and pretty up front when I bought a re-built AX15 from them. You can fix this for like $25 and a day in the shop on your back. The 5th gear is held on the output shaft by a snap ring, which has broken and let the gear move out of position. It can be fixed with the tranny still in the Jeep. It'll take a snap ring and a couple of seals to do the job. Google search this group for a post titled "WTF happened to 5th Gear" with me as the author. -- Old Crow '82 Shovelhead FLTC 92" 'Pearl' '95 Jeep Wrangler YJ TOMKAT, BS#133, SENS, MAMBM, DOF#51, SPUNGER#2 |
