Stratus Engine Swap?
I have a '95 Stratus with 186,000 miles and a very tired 2.0L coupled
to a 5-speed. Anyone know how much of a hassel it would be to put a 2.4L in its place while keeping the 5-speed? This combo wasn't offered when I bought the car back in '95, but sure would be a lot more fun than the 2.0. I'm debating between making a project car or donating it to the Kidney Foundation. -Ed Dreistadt |

If it wasnt offered before......how are you gonna get the engine controller
that will make the 2.4 run?? ED- Bolt pattern's the same, as are the engine mounts, etc. The sticking point would be the engine control module. The 2.0 module wouldn't happily run a 2.4, but a module for a 2.4 with automatic transmission would be less than happy running in front of a manual. If I had to pick, I'd use a 2.4/auto module and deal symptomatically with whatever effects might show up. If that was not offered back then ,,,, then there was no module back then
either, you can interchange the modules from apllication to application such as pt cruiser to stratus, the harness are different, the same with needeing to know if it is an automatic trans or manual, assuming you are in an area that requires a state emmission program.....u may have serious problems "Daniel J. actually the module may work and i say that because a friend in cali. has a
