Satelite Radio on an E39`
I would love anyone's opinions on installing a Sirius Radio in my 540. I
would prefer to to ruin the look of the radio, But I really hate CRTC content rules. If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate any insights. George - Toronto - Canada |

I love it. Remember though, that you need direct line of sight for reception. In practical terms this means driving under and overpass doesn't stifle the signal but sitting under it will. The only thing is this: despite all the caterwauling about i-drive I find it the very best sat radio interface. I do not know what the interface would look like on the E39. Sat radio really needs an LCD interface so you have a better idea of the variety of stations (channels) available to you. By the way, I like Sirius far better than XM. To me it is the difference between CNN and Fox. |

If it is a 2003, the Sirius integrates directly into the head unit, it's nice. If you have a 2003, e-mail me and I can explain more about the installation. |

I don't know how the performance of the antenna will be on the trunk/boot though. I've had two other vehicles with Sirius using roof mounts. Anything with a roof, an overpass or even tall trees in the mountains can effect the signal but not enough to worry about. I agree that the programming is first rate. I've spoken with a few XM subscribers and they aren't as happy with theirs as I am with Sirius. Jeff |

XM has developed into something that has a lot more ads and talking than it should for pay radio. It is less expensive (2 to 3 bucks per month if I am not mistaken), but I'd prefer the system with less talk and fewer ads. The other thing that strikes me is that XM seems to have a conservative bent to it while Sirius appears more liberal. I don't know if that is just in my head, given the ferocity of the division here in the states, but it sure seems that way to me. Someone advise if I am just getting psychotic :^) |

"Jeff Mayner" > wrote in message ... > Well, Murdoch does own XM, if I'm not mistaken. ;-) New Corp, Murdoch's group, owns DirecTV, which owns a small share of XM....5% I think....though they said earlier this year they intended to sell it off. I don't know if that happened yet. |

Well, you ARE mistaken. Murdoch has no interest in XM. Also, there are no commercials on XM, and Sirius has more talking and DJ chatter than XM on the music channels. Where you're getting your info, I don't know. But I have both. Sirius is like FM without the commercials. XM is a lot more professionally programmed, IMO. |

I use XM and I simply bought a Roady 2 which transmits wirelessley to the FM
radio receiver. It cost me $120.00 plus XM monthly fees, I pay 6.95/month each for several XM's in various vehicles. See http://www.xmradio.com/roady2/ I do have a wire going to the cigarette lighter and another going to the antenna, the tuner head is very small. There are a few commercial channels but most are commercial free.
