1999 Chrysler T&C Output Speed Sensor
Hi, Output speed sensor on my 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan failed. I'm thinking of replacing this part myself. Can anybody recommend what would be the best place to buy it? Is NAPA auto-parts store a good idea? Thanks, IP. |

I don't think you'll find that speed sensor at NAPA, your local Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership should have plenty in stock though... |

But they will probably want to install it themselves and charge me accordingly. - Many people advised me against going to the dealer with this. Will they just sell it to me and then I'll just replace it myself? Also there are probably places on-line where these things could be ordered. Do you know of any? Thanks, IP. |

Will they just sell it to me and then I'll just replace it myself? Of course they will! The parts department is where you go if you want to buy parts. You tell them what you want -- they give it to you with an invoice -- you pay the invoice -- you leave. The service department, on the other hand, is where you go if you want them to fix your van. You tell them what's wrong -- you leave the keys and the van -- they call you and tell you it's not done yet and is gonna cost a zillion bucks -- they call you and tell you it's not done and is gonna cost two zillion bucks -- you go pay the two zillion and pick up the van, and find it's not fixed and/or there are new problems. The two departments aren't the same at all. |

You described the service department quite accurately! So far my experience with them was so frustrating, that I almost wanted to learn auto repairs myself. - With their prices it will most likely pay off to do it yourself or to find a decent shop, not the dealer where it could be done for reasonable price.
