Alfa GT "ticking" climate control

Hi All,

Just took delivery of a new Alfa GT (Stromboli Grey, Black Alfatex, 17"
spoked Alloys) - beautiful car, very pleased with it.

One odd thing though, when the climate control system is on, there is an
audible "ticking" noise (sounds like an old grandfather clock) coming from
behind the dashboard.

Is this normal? If not, any idea what could be causing it? I'd like to have
some idea before I go back to the garage and confront them with it!

Same in the 147. Never caused an actual problem, so I've always
ignored it!

Same in my 147 - always been there and not causing any harm. I find it quite
annoying but the radio always helps!

Must be a 147/GT problem. Never heard such a thing in my 156 2.4 JTD.

What is the frequency?
Sounds like a relay.
Could it be that the climate control is working and the temperature is not
yet at the set degrees?
Maybe when it has reached the temp, the ticking will stop!?

My 147 does the same, with the ignition on and engine not running.
Clicks once a second, just like a clock. Never listened for it after
starting the engine. There's better things to be doing once it's
running ;-)

Yes, the GT also ticks once a second and continues after the engine is
running.

I'm still running mine in so haven't got anything better to do yet

It's difficult to estimate, but I'd guess it tick like this about 78-80% of
the time.

Haven't figured out if this is during a temperature adjustment phase or not.

A little off-subject, Grahame, but how do you like your GT? Alfa is
loaning me one starting this coming Sunday, the 3rd of October, for two
weeks to drive around Europe (I'm an American) and I'd like to hear some
opinions. The one I'm getting is the 3.2 liter V-6. Is that what you
have? I don't know whether the car I'm getting is a standard 6-speed or
a Selespeed, but I suspect the former.

The V6 is not available with the Selespeed system.

Hi George,

I've had the GT a few weeks now and I love it!

I bought the 1.9 JTD which has a fantastic engine (even more torque than the
3.2 V6!), superb handling, looks to die for and (on a more mundane level) is
relatively cheap to run.

How on earth did you get Alfa to loan you one for 2 weeks!!!! I had a hard
enough time getting a test drive from my local dealerships.

Hope you enjoy your tour of Europe - I'm sure you'll enjoy the 3.2V6.

Why don't you drop the newsgroup a post when you get back and let us all
know how you got on?
