I think it is whether the service manager was authorised to speak on behalf
of Alfa GB . I.e. whether it was an opinion stated by an employee or Alfa
GB policy. Even then he wasn't an employee of Alfa GB but (presumably) a
franchised dealer for whom he may have breached the contract between said
dealer and Alfa GB.
I am not being deliberately negative, but I wouldn't hold much hope in what
a service manager states that Alfa GB (or any car manufacturer) will pick
up that is outside of the stated liability.
