I've found it is often much safer to park WITH cars than to park away from
them. Pick your spot, find one with lots of room, and then park in nice and
straight and in the middle.

When you appear to be paranoid or too good to park with the rest, many
resent that and want to show you that you are not.

Park in the middle and most ignore you.

Also, it is less likely that a shopping cart caught be the wind or
carelessly let go downhill will roll into you, as they are as likely to hit
a car on either side of you as yours. Also, it doesn't stand out someone
absently mindedly drives along looking at their purse or the back seat and
crashes into you out in the wide open spaces.

The other option is to park out on the far edge of the lot where the
employees typically park, and then you can park among the cars to shelter it
and not worry about someone opening a door into it as they have probably
been there a few hours before you and will be there a few hours after you so
no one will be coming out and leaving while you are in the store.
