It used to happen to me. I'd set my left signal to take a left fork.
The turn wasn't enough to cancel the signal. On a sunny day I wouldn't
see the flash on the dashboard. With the windows down a little, I
wouldn't hear the tick.

I found a beeper in my electronics junk box and installed it between the
two outputs of the flasher, by the steering column. The beeper drains
through the signal lights on the unused side, but the current isn't
enough to make them glow. I've impressed many passengers with my beeping.
