Sorry, but I'm not buying it. The numbers would have to be 0.010 inches
tall and right on the top edge of the block for decking to remove them.
Assuming that the numbers are normal size (not 0.010" tall), if you
took enough meat off the block to remove the numbers you would be left
with something like a "227" instead of a "427". This sounds like "urban
legend" stuff.
