Default gas gauge 12 volt conversion question

Yeah, it should have a reducer. You'd need a solid-state voltage
regulator type, not a resistor.
That's an old Bus? See my web site for the type gauge- yours should
be voltmeter-type rather than newer thermal.

Test by grounding the wire to the sender.
Also check that there actually is voltage going *to* the gauge.

You can also measure resistance of the sender to ground to see if it
is good.
