The Subaru boxer engine into Beetle/ACVW conversion seems to be the way
to go at the moment. It does involve replacing a big chunk of the
undergubbins of the car, but then again with the big powerplant you also
need improved brakes (and strengthening in case of accident.)
I would say they are becoming common, but it's more right to say a bit
less rare :-)
