CV Joint Torx Bolts

Have spent this afternoon struggling with the torx socket bolts on the CV
joints on my 1978 Bay. I have a good quality torx bit but have stripped
out the splined heads on the bolts.

Inlet Manifold Spigot - '78 1600 Bus

On my recently acquired UK spec '79 1600 bus I'm having a little problem
with idling - as in it won't.

Ignition all ok but I've noticed there's a spigot (about 2" long and 1/2"
dia) on the inlet...
