I talked to an old farmer here in the midwest and he changes oil
according to mfg. specifications (7,500 miles) and uses regular oil, not
synthetic.

It could very well have a solenoid sticking or with a bad electrical
connection to one of them. I suspect this is a problem which could be
fixed without removing the trans, taking it all apart, etc....

I might add that when loosening the retaining nut for the tensioner,
it didn't seem very tight, possibly allowing the tensioner to pivot out
slightly and causing the belt to ride out on the pulley.
