Fitting reversing aid to 147
 

The wiring info gleaned from this group and www.alfaowners.com helped but
wasn't quit correct.
My Bella is a Nov 2003 147 1.6TS Lusseo.
( all directions from rear of car looking forward into car)
Reversing light on hatch is served by 2 wires, white/black is power,
purple/black is earth.
These join with wires from rear fog, hatch brake light and wiper into a wire
loom that passes into the roof space via the rubber gator at the top of the
hatch.
This combined loom passes to the R and down the R rear pillar to the boot
space where it splits.
All the earth wires pass backwards to an earthing point situated on the boot
lip bulkhead to the R of the hatch lock and behind the plastic boot lip
cover which is held on with 4 clips,3 screws and 2 bolts also holding the
luggage restraint rings.
The power leads in the wire loom pass forward under the rear seat back,
under the rear seat on the R side of the car and under the floor carpet
forward under the drivers seat.
The wiring loom can be easily displayed and a connection made to the
reversing light power lead ( white/black) under the rear seat base.

Fitting was simple. Removed the internal boot plastic moulding( 3 screws,2
bolts ) and remove 3 bolts holding the bottom of the bumper to the bumper
stays.
Clean internal surface of bumper with solvent ( I used petrol ) and allow to
dry. Sensor strip then stuck to internal surface with connector on R side
( drivers side )
In boot on R side is a rubber grommet through which the connection wire can
be passed to sensor connector. Electronic unit can be stuck with adhesive
pad in R corner of boot under carpet.
Earth wire from unit can be connected to earthing point located on rear boot
metal work to R of hatch lock. Will be hidden by plastic boot moulding.
Positive wire led forward on R side, under rear seat back to wiring loom
exposed when rear seat base pulled forward. Remove tape on wiring loom and
locate Black/white wire and make connection.
All wire to wire or wire to plug connections were soldered and the sensor
strip covered in waterproof tape.
System works well.
3 beeps on selecting reverse gear. Unit operational
3 slow beeps when 100 to 80 cms from object.
3 fast beeps from 50cms.
Continuous tone from 30 cms.
Worked on metal gate, plastic bin and volunteer as well as the wife's KA.
Very pleased. Took just over an hour to fit.
