Are these people insane?

A few day ago I was driving on I465 (the multilane belt around
Indy). I moved to the rightmost (first) lane to pass a white SUV
with smoked windows doing maybe 60 in the second lane. Note that
the rightmost was the only free lane at that point. Not far ahead of us,
a semi was merging from a on-ramp, so my plan was to pass the SUV (on the right)
and then pass the semi on the left. Well, the ****head in the SUV accelerates,
trying to trap me behind the slowly merging semi and force me to brake
violently. I had to accelarate to 100 mph to get around him! Made
it around the semi with yards to spare. ****, 100 mph on a 55 mph
road, I'd have been arrested if a cop had caught me, but it was that
or slamming in the back of the semi.

Are these SUV people insane? Do they have a wish to die
in a road rage incident?

You're doing a 100 mph on a busy freeway and you say they're crazy?

You'll love the idiots I ran into on IL53.

Traffic suddenly brakes, slowing to 40ish or less, like 3 times,
randomly. I'm wondering WTF is going on. I get past the crowd and there
are two camaros, one in the left lane the other in the middle lane. Red
and black respectfully. I am driving the mustang and I know they are
going to make trouble. They've been doing the random braking fing up
traffic. I pass the two and move into the middle lane in front of the
black one to pass someone in the right lane.

They hit it. The red one is half on the left shoulder as it passes me,
the black one is going to come up my ass, so I brake. He cuts around me
and nails the brakes... wooptie do, I put $900 in the braking system for
a reason, it's uneventful. They both take off cutting people off, etc. I
keep going normally. A neon driving rice boy I had passed before I
reached the f-body twins goes by farting all the way. I am moving through
traffic seeing these knuckle dragers cutting off other drivers and doing
various stunts when a silver GM SUV joins the frey, shoulder passing and
following suit.

They get fairly far in front of me when I notice they are lined up for
the express, great I'm going to the locals and exiting. Nope, they vere
into the locals. I am moving along in the right lane towards my exit. the
black camaro asshole cuts me off, but not too horribly. Takes the exit I
am going for. Red camaro is in front of him. As I am exiting, neon rice
boy decides to make one lane into two and pulls along side me to exit.
I don't give in. The silver GM SUV pulls in behind. Get down to the
surface street. I change lanes to the right as I need to do. Neon boy
nearly rear ends me and swings around to the right. Camaro boy starts
threatening to hit me in the left side, does his cut off and brake nonsense
again. I've got the silver GM SUV up my ass flashing his brights.

Go through a green traffic light, rice boy swings around in front of me.
Camaro boys in the black one are yelling stuff at me, I'm flipping them
off. Silver SUV still up my ass flashing brights. I have reached my
destination, signal and make the lane changes to get into the right turn
lane and they go on their merry way.

I live in Indy too and have experienced similar idot manuvers. But not
just with SUV's. Indy traffic has tripled to what it was just 5 years
ago, making the driving a congested and defensive mess. Nothing to
really do about it except to keep both eyes open for trouble and after
awhile you can almost predict which cars/drivers will do something
dangerous. I realized i'd just go 1-5 mph over the speed limit and let
the other jerkoffs pass me by...it seems to work well enough. Yeah they
are insane because they think in the SUV they are untouchable...and
probably a badass as well.

Oh bs. The traffic hasn't tripled in 5 years, you idiot.

FYI...i actually like the style of SUV's and their capabilities-but
what's the point in having one in a state that is 70% flatland?I drive
a large step up crusing van- so it is easier to see whats coming and
going i guess and it is easier for experiance a sense of being safer
with a heavy-loaded-steel vehicle that stands taller than most other
vehicles on the road...thats why i'd rather drive a van/suv than a car
anyday.

I believe the term is "passive-aggressive control freak".
Nobody is allowed to go faster than them, and they start to
behave aggressively iff someone tries.

I wonder if those people are also control freaks in real life,
or if it is just brought on by sitting in their SUV.

Is that intuitive though? Number 1 lane should be the 'base' lane
IMO.

Absolutely. But that doesn't make them control freaks. They're
psychopaths.

Either way is intuitive if you're used to it.

FYI, the "right lane = #1" system is official in OR and WA, appears in
their drivers' manuals and is used in traffic reports there.
