DAB (again)

Well I've concluded it is a rip-off!

My brother for Christmas got a DAB receiver, made by Matsui. This is
about the shape of a King-size Mars bar about 5x2x1. It runs 6v DC
and has two (L&R) audio out ports. Cost? Apparently £30. The aerial
is the interesting part going on what has been said before about the
cost of specialist DAB aerials. What is it? About a foot of narrow
insulated multi-strand copper - like you get on FM alarm clocks.
Hardly high-tech! Works beautifully :)

The choice though is actually quite good. Everything from Virgin to
BBC7!

I suppose you could adapt in a heath robinson fashion this unit for
the car. Rig a 2:1 transformer for power. Then get one of those iPod
short-range FM transmitters that Belkin makes so your car radio picks
it up.

As for the DAB price for home or car, how the manufactuers can still
ask those sort of prices I don't know.

Depends on your reception area, mate. The wire one that came wiht mine was
useless. A decent Maplin di-pole only cost be about GBP15 though

Miniaturisation innit. Don't forget, yours has no amp either (not that
they're exactly expensive thse days) Plus like all things audio, they
don't all sound the same ;)
