166 V2.5 V6 Tourismo 03 Plate with Delivery Mileage !
Hi,
I have just bought a 2.5 V6 Tourismo, Nero Black, Grey cloth interior. Its an 03 (Registered May 03) with 30 Miles on the clock ? The dealer tells me he bought it direct from Alfa Romeo but the car is registered to a leasing company. Anyone understand how this works ? Have I bought a dodgy motor - I paid £12,500 Regards DJ |

Certainly that's what had happened to my Cinquecento. -- Steve H 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' http://www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - MZ ETZ300 VW Golf GL Cabrio - Alfa 75 TS - Alfa 155 TS Lusso - COSOC KOTL BoTAFOT #87 - BoTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC # |

The dealer told me it was a way of AR pre-registering the car but the more I thought about it (after I had paid my deposit !) the more I couldn't understand how or why a car could only have delivery miles (30) after a whole year. The car does have the chassis number etched into the front windscreen and the side windows are also etched with some infomationl, the dealer pointed this out to me after I asked him to confirm it was not an import. Wish me luck with my first Alfa. DJ |

You won't need luck. Don't listen to what the press / idiot know-it-alls say about Alfas! They're reliable, and don't rust. OK? Just remember to check the oil more often than you would with a Ford... although the V6 doesn't suffer in the same way as recent TSpark engines do. Just relax and enjoy! - oh, and let me know what you think of it, as the 166 is near the top of my list of 'cars to buy when I'm no longer doing 20k miles / year' ;-) -- Steve H 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' http://www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - MZ ETZ300 VW Golf GL Cabrio - Alfa 75 TS - Alfa 155 TS Lusso - COSOC KOTL BoTAFOT #87 - BoTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC # |

They will tell you if the seller is actually the owner of the car. If the car has been stolen they will also tell the real owner that someone has tried to sell the car. <g> Along with the car documentation, owner manual, etc., there should be a Red Wallet with the ISR documents. They have a 24/7 freephone at 07000 111333 Look at the side windows of the car for the Label. Before you hand over the money, ask the dealer about the ISR. I am sure they will be happy to reassure you by producing the documents, or ring the number. It's free. <G> Pete -- > 156 2.0 TS (2001) - Proteo Rosso (his) 147 2.0 TS (2002) - Gem Green (her's) |

DJ,
You will need to register the car with them by calling the phone number Pete gave you. Normally you have to pay to register if you are the second owner BUT, save yourself some money, its FREE for pre-registered vehicles. Here is the URL http://www.retainagroup.co.uk/updates/vehicle_svl.html The bad news is you may have to have it serviced ASAP to ensure the warranty is kept up to date (one year from registration +/- one month or 12,000 miles). Maybe you could get the Dealer to do this before its given to you. I am currently checking up on this as I also have an 03 May pre reg car (156). Car was PDI'd by Alfa fleet, number plates say Alfa Fleet, and V5 says Opti lease. Pre registering cars is mainly used to bump the cars up the sales chart and to receive BIG bonuses from the manufacturer for achieving sales targets (measured on the number of registrations). For Alfa's last year it was a question of getting rid of old shape stock. Thnx Alex - the Dealer is servicing the car this week, even though it hasn`t
done any miles. DJ "AlexUK" > wrote in message ... > DJ, > > You will need to register the car with them by calling the phone > number Pete gave you.
