I am thinking of buying a new E90 BMW 330i and was very impressed with the
front & back Park Control system with its graphics display! However to get
the graphics on this you need to buy the Sat Nav system as well (£1.5K in
the UK + PDC at £.5K)). This seems quite expensive for what I think is
probably a nice toy!

Can anyone suggest reasons as to why the Sat Nav is worth it? I don't travel
much on business in my own car (use a pool car) and generally know where I
am going (to my mothers and so on). Are there any potential advantages that
I have overlooked?

I have nav on both my cars and wouldn't consider a new car without it. Just
brilliant. Never have to get directions from Mapquest any more. Even just
going to a shop or any new place, I just punch in the address and I don't
have to think about looking for exits, streets, etc. Just do what the lady
says.

Much cheaper to buy something like a Tomtom Go (£430) or a pda and a gps
receiver (£200 or whatever you want to spend).

Can't argue with tech's praise of satellite nav in general terms, but the
BMW interpretation of the concept employs some of the poorest ergonomics on
the planet. Their maps aren't much to get excited about either, at least
outside major cities where they seemed adequate.

The best nav implementation I've seen is on the Acura. Better maps/database
and a touchscreen system that's far easier to master (or at least quicker to
enter data) than the bimmer's twist and push. As to whether or not its
"worth it," that's a question best answered by yourself.

Quite agree, my 320D Sport has the DVD Sat Nav and you get the TV as
well and nicely integrated into the display with the computer and phone.
Must check out the new 3 series as my CD-changer display only goes up to
99 tracks per CD and my mp3 disks have over 100 on each.
